I am so excited to share with you all that this year I will be fulfilling one of my lifelong dreams of building a new home! As a person who LOVES interior design and organization, I have always wanted a brand new home that I can customize to suit the needs of myself and my family. I’m also so happy that this new adventure will provide plenty of blog content over the next year so make sure to keep checking back for updates as I plan to share the entire process!
How it Began
My husband and I had always discussed that we would move once our kids were no longer living with us on a full-time basis. The town that we live in is one of the best places in southern Ontario to raise kids but we don’t feel a strong pull to stay now that our daughter is married and living 45 minutes away in the city and our son is attending University in another major city. The kids are growing up and starting their own lives and we’re ready for some major changes too.
For the past year and a half we had been looking around and exploring our options but it wasn’t until we went away for a weekend in Collingwood, Ontario that we remembered just how much we love that area. As usual for me, I had written a full itinerary that I had researched in advance including visiting model homes in the area. At the time I was just hoping to see some beautifully designed houses and get some inspirational photos but a couple of the developments really caught our attention as well as the area amenities. We started to see possibilities and it didn’t take long for us to make a decision to buy a lot in a new development near a beautiful small town, a golf course overlooking Georgian Bay and all the fantastic restaurants and resort-like amenities in and around the Collingwood area.
So after many, many visits and so, so much research we chose a lot and purchased a new build at Georgian Shores in Thornbury, Ontario. It is on a lovely street nestled in the trees between the Georgian Bay and the Georgian Trail.
In my next post I will share which model we chose and show some of the beautiful finishes offered by our builder. I will also be doing some additional work on this house after it closes so there will be lots to come in the months ahead.
