It’s bittersweet to write about selling our family home where we have lived for the past 14 years in Newmarket, Ontario. As a serial renovator and decorator I’m excited for the opportunity to begin new projects but I will always remember this house as my largest labour of love and the design where I won my first award!
There are so many wonderful memories here that it will be hard to leave when the time comes. My daughter started high school in Newmarket and my son was just 5 years old when we moved here. He can’t really remember living anywhere else. We moved from a 1400 square foot century home in Toronto to more than 4000 square feet in the suburbs with a pool, good schools and plenty of outdoor space. We’ve all been really happy here.
I’ve loved raising my children here so much that I am really hoping for a young family to buy it who can take advantage of spaces we’ve created for family fun and entertaining. There are so many special things about this house that just can’t be appreciated until you live here. Like the fact that there is a beautiful sunset from the back deck that appears over a hill where a beautiful private school heritage building is perched. I’ve taken photos of that sunset for 14 years and can’t ever capture the real beauty of the colours that appear.
Another experience close to my heart is the peacefulness of sitting by (or floating in) the backyard pool during the daytime. It is just an oasis of silence except for the amplified sounds of nature all around. I often turn off the waterfall that flows into the pool because the trickling of the water is less relaxing than the silence. How ironic is that?
As upsetting as it can be, the thing I also love about life is the journey and the evolution from one stage to another. Change can be difficult but in my experience it is always good with a little planning and an open mind.
Stay tuned while I begin to share my next personal project and a new chapter in this wonderful life that I have been so blessed with.
